Let's try an experiment.
The next time there is a Super Bowl we announce to the crowd that we are going to fake a 1 Trillion dollar expedition to Mars ...and swear everyone to secrecy. Go ahead and let the networks cover it, we will swear everyone at home to secrecy, too, if we have to.
Secrets like "We Faked the Moon Landing" are impossible to keep. Flat out impossible.
They are only believable because of a pervasive distrust for the US government. "Yeah, I believe those guys would do that." Sure, they would... but COULD they.

Just to emphasize what others have said, this is not a question of belief. The Moon landings are an historic FACT, supported by hours of video, thousands of images, 800 kg. of Moon rocks, and millions of witnesses.
