Please let me know what does the poet means by '' Came to hazard" in the below text:

" My mother came to hazard when I was just seven
even then the folks in town said with prejudiced eyes
that boy's not right"

this is an old song of Richard Max!

Hazard is capitalized. It is a small town in Nebraska. The people in the town see the 7 year old child and think something is mentally wrong with him. It is the song about a murder of a young girl and the boy is accused of killing her when her body is found upriver.

Simple. He and his mother moved to this new town called Hazard and the people there were prejudiced against him for some reason. Maybe he was retarded or something.

Hazard means a danger or an accident. So to me it sounds like the danger began at seven and follow him thru his life.
