Two weeks is the average time it takes to treat the ich. As far as how long your fish is able to live with the infection, that will depend on how heavy the infection is, and the size, and general health of the fish involved.

Why not start treating your fish today? You can treat him/her using salt if it's not a sensitive species (and most any that would be sensitive to salt will also be sensitive to medication). Unless it's a tetra, catfish, or other scaleless fish (loach, knife fish, elephant nose, etc.) you can use a teaspoon to a tablespoon of salt per gallon of water. Or do a salt dip in a more concentrated salt solution. Mix the salt with water first to dillove it before you add it to the tank.

Also, turning up the heat will speed up the lifecycle of the parasites so the drop off the fish faster so they can be killed by whatever treatment you use.

It is not too late as long as they are not infested. If it is bad or you have other fish they may contract it. Iwould retuurn the fish to the pet store and make them awae of the problem, before other fish get it.
