I think its always a choice. People should just accept others for who they are, as a person. Its whats in your heart. Although i do think that parents views can alter those of an impressionable child. We need to teach and practise tolerance.

First of all being an Afro-American Male (Black or Negro) I have to say it's environmental, Also I belive that in order to be racist you have to have the ability to influence or effect a change in a group, be it social, economic, status or race.

For me that's the difference. Racism can effect a change but prejudice and Personal bias can't.

You can dislaike for a bad resaon - Bias

You can dislike a group - Prejudice

Or you can hounn and torture a group for personal satisfication - Racism

Only in the third do you have the ability to effect a social change.

It's not genetic; racists' behavior is influenced by their environment. Their environment and experiences shape their belief system and cause them to make the choices they make and how they choose to behave.

Its a choice, of course influenced by surroundings, up-bringing etc. But, genetically I think people are programmed to enjoy the feeling of thinking they are Superior to one another. In something that would one day become famous a first grade teacher told her students one day that all blue eyed students were superior, the next day she told them that all brown eyed students were superior. She said she noticed that the most distinctive change took place in the students who were told they were superior, it was they who acted differently. Also, there are certain types of people who generally exhibit racist behavior more than others.

It is environmental, not genetic. And you can learn to see past the negative choices you've been taught.

I believe it is a choice that is heavily influenced by the individual's personal upbringings and surrounding (including family, where they live, the people they are around..)
