Both Eric Clapton and Duane did. Duane has the really high, screechy guitar licks that bring the heavy emotions out over Clapton's perfect frets.

Both Eric Clapton and Duane Allman admired each other's abilities. That's why they performed together on that song. Sadly, they never had another chance to collaborate because Duane was killed in a motorcycle accident on 10/29/71.

Duane "dog" Allman played all the way through layla - but it was his slide guitar (to me) that really stands out! I am a old lady that was very lucky to see him play and it was great!! Got to see them at Piedmon Park live about 1968?? can't really remember the year-That was the hippie years 14th St in Atlanta-Crazy!!
