For example, I watched a doco on tv about these kids from the UK who have tourettes.. they sent them to a camp so there was a whole group of them with these twitches and swearing, cussing etc and i couldn't help but laugh at some of the things that were happening, i felt awful after so the next day at work i asked anybody else if they had seen it and they all thought it was funny.. I'm not the kind of person to laugh at somebody with a disability but yeah, I did.

You have absolutely nothing to worry about, Nikki. Your reaction is human ... and from your words it's obvious your heart is in the right place. You wouldn't have been concerned enough to ask in the first place if it wasn't.

Laughing is frequently a natural reaction when one doesn't know how to properly respond to a stimulus. Seeing an entire group of individuals with Tourettes Syndrome is not something you would ordinarily be exposed to, so your first inclination was to laugh.
The fact that you feel bad about laughing indicates that you are a caring and conscience-guided person... I don't think you need to worry about your natural reaction, as you obviously recognize that Tourettes is a disability and not a choice.

No, it's not bad. It's human nature. It doesn't mean you are laughing at their condition. plus, seeing it on TV is not the same as seeing it in person.
I can tell you from personal experience dealing with a neighbor who have tourettes, it is not that funny in person.
After the novelty wears off, it takes a lot patience to deal with everything. You end up feeling really terrible for the person since it causes so much trouble in their life.

It is a shame that you found this horrible disease funny. By watching the documentary did you not learn anything. The people that are affected with Touretts Syndrome have no control over what they do. They can not lead a normal life as you are blessed to live. Not only is this infliction embarassing for them it is also physically and mentally draining. Imagine your body in constant motion with no relief. Imagine not being able to attend functions because of uncontrolable movement or words. So yes it is bad that you and your co-workers find this amusing. It is also sad that while watching the documentary you viewed it as a comedy and not a learning experience

As long as you are a loving person you need not be ashamed.
I was ones amused by a mute who ordered a sub and managed to communicate without words what he wanted on it. I was amazed at his persistence and how despite the fact that he was a mute and the task would be difficult he still was going to get what he wanted. He didn't use pen and paper either just grunts and points.
So laugh it up just be nice about it.

My son is nineteen now, yet while he grew to become into 12 he had braces and for a pair months his tics did improve by way of fact no longer purely grew to become into he putting up with the teasing in school with regard to the tics, he now had braces to handle, very annoying for him. It grew to become into approximately 3 or 4 months before the better point tapered off and he grew to become into waiting to mask the tics for the main section throughout college hours. The braces are not what convey approximately tic, its the emotional stress on the subject of them that does.

Honestly, i think its not right to mock, and make fun of people with such disabilities, but i can see how one might find it funny. Ive worked with children who have Tourettes and other disabilities and its not funny, they cant control what they say, and they know it. It makes them feel bad enough, but it makes it worse when people make fun of them like that.

I think it is human nature to find things so unusual, amusing. Like when people laugh at others hurting themselves or falling over. You also have empathy for their syndrome, and you know, they probably laugh at themselves on occasion too - like everybody else..

As long as you don't make fun of him or her it should be fine.
They don't remember when they scream or say bad things or meow so they won't remember you laughing.
