I know that flying is probably faster and everything, but wouldn't super-speed come in handy during certain situations? He's fought several times indoors which pretty much restricts him to flying (unless he tears the whole place down by crashing into everything) and yet he rarely superspeeds, why?

P.S: Smallville doesn't count as Clark has yet to discover his flying ability.

He did use his running ability when he fought the Flash in a running contest. He got a draw on the first two runs and lost in the third...

Even when indoor it is easier to fly because he'll have the height advantage and it'll be easier to move between terrain (like from a platform to a ladder for instance)..

I would have to say that if I had the array of powers that Superman has, I might get tired of just running simply because the view would be better from up in the air. Plus, if I had nowhere to be it would be nice to take a leisurely flight and possibly just hover in earth's orbit watching the globe turn and waiting for the right place to appear then re-enter the atmosphere. This is what Iron Man has done before. Extremely cool.

Superman doesn't have superspeed ability unlike Flash, so he has to get use to flying indoor or otherwise run s l o w l y . . .

Flying is better. But I would like to run over water at the speed of light or beyond. :)

If he runs indoors, he'll run through the wall and probably end up in China. Maybe he can run a marathon instead.

Very simple my friend, spider man, ultra man, bionic man... their underwear is inside whereas 'Superman' it's the other way round, it really restricts him from running fast enough.
