When I was a very impressionable young Teen, I noticed that an Awful lot of "grownups" had their hopes, lives & dreams- messed up by Alcohol. It seemed so STUPID to me at the time, I SWORE that I'd NEVER take up drinking- no matter what... 35 years later- I'm still keeping to that Promise...-And I've NEVER regretted it for a second... :)

Hello,
I am one. I married one. My family was affected prior to it before my birth. My Grandmother's father died digging a well when she was two years old. Later in life I learned it was due to heavy drinking while digging the well a friend of his was loaded and dropped an axe on his head. That happening kind of pass's along the family history. It wasn't talked about until after my grandmother's death!!
My other parent was raised in a family of drinking and in that family lot's of abuse of many kinds in nature.
So yes my family has been affected by this.
Alcholism is a disease and there is help.
I have been sober for thirteen years.
I also attend recovery meetings and also in those meetings I attend Al-Anon.
If you are affected by it try the meeting out for 90 days if U don't like what you get I am sure they will gladly refund your misery back to U 100%. When I heard that thirteen years ago I thought WOW !!
How it happened:
my daughter let me know in NO suttle way I am a drunk and I have not drank since than she was four years old than and just turned 18.
So not a day goes by that I dont' count my blessings in life.
If someone like me can do this and find and seek help ...
anyone can do this!!
Just for today I will have a quiet half hour all by myself, and relax. During this half hour, sometime, I will try to get a better perspective of my life.

I am L and I am a person that goes to recovery meetings,I don't NOT Go when my child died. I keep going. If my a** is falling OFF I bring it to a meeting!!

alcoholism is a bad seed in my life amongst myself and family members .Mentally ,physically,emotionally,&(spiritaually )has been most devastating .It is like a broken horse once you break him down there isn't any life in him to go on until the fear ,anger and self pity drifts away. meanwhile you can lose yourself and others through death which isn't reversible . these are some ways alcoholism has affected me directly and indirectly

well my boyfriends mom is an alcoholic and he has always been really against it and i know that it has made for a difficult childhood. but as for me... it has really messed things up for me as well... bc i got drunk one night and i made out with another guy when i was with my bf. and bc of my mistake, our relationship was really set back and everything is just really screwed up. i like having a good time dont get me wrong but i just dont feel the need to get drunk enough to loose control and make poor decisions.

my brother lose himself to it for a long time and then got better for many years. When his daughter left home and had her own family he fell back in the bottle. He won't have anything to do with the family at all I think we lose him to it.
the bad part is I'm the answer guy and I have no answer for that one.

A very close friend who had started drinking as a teen couldn't stop, had to have several beers or some vodka every night, and slowly died of it, refusing rehab.

i pretty much lost every thing .but not all at once,it slowly happend,good thing i have a loving careing family and they took me in or i would be on street holding a sign "will work for food" been sober for three months have a long way to go.
