Not money but light. Ignorance is total darkness.

An education opens doors! The further along in school one goes, the further in life they progress. Although some achieve degreed status, they do not apply themselves and are often frustrated. It is the obligation to one's self that determines whether or not they also merit success. Learn to be a good listener and you will be a good communicator as well. Just make sure that you can apply your education to a career that you will enjoy as opposed to just a decent paying job.
TO ALL RESPONDENTS: Sounds like Doctor A. is having a bad hair day. Maybe he stayed too long at the staff party. Anyway, the question is about the necessity of education! As an educated individual your commentary tends to lessen any positive feedback here.

Well, you get a job that doesn't require you to offer someone fries...you get to make decisions that require actual thought, and be fairly confident they won't blow up in your face...and you get to live off of your own paycheck, rather than off of Mom and Dad for the next 30 years. :-)

You also get to understand things that are happening in the world around you, rather than just deciding to listen to the biggest loudmouth in the media, and you get to be influenced by ideas that don't show up on MTV. You get to speak and actually have people think that you have something intelligent to say, and you get to have people (like your kids) look up to you because you know what you're talking about.

Sounds pretty good to me :-)

Other than having a better chance at getting a higher paying job, having a degree won't actually get you that much. It doesn't mean your more intelligent than people who weren't educated (in schools). Schools should teach more important things like how the "real world" works, how to stay calm in a stressful situation and CPR.

I'M SHOUTING THIS LOUD AND REALLY CLEAR, JUST SO THERE IS NO MIS-UNDERSTANDING OR MISTAKING MY MESSAGE....

Okay, here I go... Will all you teachers who manage to read this, please pass this message on to your students.

1) There are no such things as alien beings walking amongst us.

2) There are no extra-terrestrial spaceships on the moon.

3) Our radio signals cannot be detected and demodulated by alien (message me and I'll give you the technical reasons as to why not) beings.

4) For the sake of common sense, educate your students, and give them some sort of education that will give them the skills they will need for their future benefit, and that of mankind.

5) Tell these things to your students every day, so that they won't come into the science and history answer forum and ask questions as if they were three-year-olds.

Remember. Students are only as wise and as educated as YOU make these people...

Thank you for your time.

Dr Antony.
