I think it is time congress did something that is worth a damn with out tax dollars, like fixing the social security debacle or illegal immigration that is sucking our nation dry.

I don't have a problem with the resolution but damn, do something for a change

I do not, for the simple reason that there is nothing to be gained from dredging up the distant past. Why needlessly insult a vital ally of the U.S like Turkey long after these events took place? The Turkey that committed those atrocities is nothing like the modern, democratic Turkey of today which respects the fundamental human rights of all its citizens. If Congress still insists on continuing with this silly farce, then the Turkish parliament should reciprocate the gesture by passing a motion that condemns the founding of the U.S as the greatest catastrophe to ever befall the native people of the North American continent. Tit for tat. C'mon. You know as well as I do, that this pathetic resolution is really about the people in Congress hankering after the electoral support of ethnic Armenian voters.

Why not? It's way past time - France has already made it a crime to deny the Armenian Genocide. This brought Sarkozy and Putin together very nicely.
America needs to break the tie it formed with Turkey in the Cold War because Turkey provided U.S. base facilities for the confrontation with the USSR. For this Turkey was given NATO membership !!
What the hell has Turkey to do with NATO? Or the EU?

Our government shouldn't be wasting time in our current situation with letters to Clear Channel about Rush, resolutions condemning "General Betray Us" ads, resolutions declaring historical events as genocide, etc. The partisanship and maneuvering by both sides only hurts our country and most of us who are in the middle.

No, not at this point. 70 years ago when it was actually relevant - sure it was necessary. But at this point all that is really there is a bunch of words put together by a PAC & presented to a bunch of liberal lawmakers with all sorts of under the table promises attached.
& if you're really looking for someone in Washington to tell the truth, don't look at the democrats. They specialize in talking out of both sides of their mouths at the same time with different stories just to make sure all of their bases are covered.

I think they should actually pass some meaningful legislation for America. But hey if your country wants to keep working on stuff like this while Mother Russia moves mightily forward be my guest.

Congress tried to pass the same amendment during Clinton's administration, but Clinton blocked it. I think they should pass a resolution, but should pass it after the conflict in Iraq is under control.

I wish the House would spend their time resolving issues that actually face us in the here and now. That's what we send them to Washington for.

No, its a stupid resolution that puts American soldiers in danger by upsetting a strong ally. First the Democrats screwed our alliance in the 70s with Iran and now they want to do the same with Turkey.
