just imagine u r selling eggs. and one customer came to u and ask 'i wanna buy half of the eggs and half of 1 egg'. after 1 hour another customer came and ask the samething. and after one more hour another customer came and ask the same thing. after u sell the eggs to the three customer, u have no egg left.

now the q is HOW MANY EGGS DID U HAVE BEFORE U SELL ANY?

{P.S. u can't brake any eggs}

Piece of egg...I mean cake.

You can write this as a system of equations and then solve if you want find out the initial number of eggs as well as how many did each person get.

Let x=number of eggs to begin with.

Let y=number of eggs the first person bought
so y=x/2+1/2

And then after you sold him the eggs you had x-y eggs left.

Let z=the number of eggs sold to the second person
so z=(x-y)/2+1/2

And then after you sold to the second person, you had x-y-z eggs left.

Let t=the number of eggs sold to the third person
so t=(x-y-z)/2+1/2

and since you ran out of everything we have that x=y+z+t.

So now you have four linear equations with four variables, you can solve it and you get that the original of eggs was x=7. The first person bought y=4 eggs. The second person bought z=2 eggs and the third person bought t=1 egg.
