I am a huge fan of Stephen King books. I have to admit that a lot of them have left me with a "huh?" feeling at the end but never as much as The Mist did. Can anybody give me their take on this story? I would really love to hear what you think really happened in the story!

I understand the reasons why I had that "HUH?" feeling at the end. What I was really wanting was opinions on the story..what people thought it was about.

I seriously LOVED the mist! It is by far my favorite short story and stephen king is by far my favorite author!.

When I read this story (many years ago), I remember loving it. My favorite aspect of the story wasn't the creatures though. What I really liked was the slow crawl to a barbaric state in the characters. I loved how they eventually began to form their groups and turn against each other. I seriously loved Mrs. Carmody, I thought she added a lot to the story and was one of the most complex characters. I aslo really enjoyed the ending. I think it was appropriate for how the story was playing out.

Thank you for asking this question. Ever since I heard about the movie, I have re-read this book like 8 times. I love it so much and most people wont listen to my obsession. You deserve a star!

I can get why you would think, "Huh"? I think it's exactly what Stephen King wanted you to think when the novella came to a close.

The mist that attacks the town is disturbing largely because it plays on our natural discomfort with uncertainty. From the beginning to the end of the story, much is left unanswered, especially at the end. King does not just tie up all the loose ends, and in doing so, he forces you into the uncertainty - almost to the point of disorientation - right along with the characters.

That's my idea on why the story leaves you with a "huh" reaction.

WOW, I've been thinking about this story this week because it's been so long since I've read it, and here I see a question about it.

Sorry I can't answer your question because I'm having problems remembering the storyline, but I'll star it. Maybe one of my contacts can help you.
