I have read too many sources on ligers, which say that they are very easygoing and gentle. But they never explain why. A youtube.com video shows a man who demonstrates the gentleness of liger by slapping liger on the face, but the liger doesn't respond. The creature looks very terrifying and vicious, then how come it has no ability to get angry or attack?

Ligers are very mature and self-aware.
They had to go through a lot of therapy because they were outcasts. They weren't accepted by the tigers or the lions, and that was pretty traumatic.
Now they're really easy-going. Many are on meds, too.

I worked at a big cat rescue with lions, tigers, leopards and other big cats. We never had a liger, but I was able to meet a few and talk to other organizations that had them. With the ligers huge size often comes a type of slight mental retardation. Not all ligers are like this,but those that are tend to be mild in comparison to their parents. That's why you often see them appearing almost tame. However, even those ligers with this condition can be very dangerous. Just because they are often mild and friendly doesn't change the fact they are a 1000 pound big cat that can get upset over food or being frightened. They still get grumpy and have teeth and claws

They "CAN" be easy going and gentle, but they can also be extremely dangerous just as any exotic cat out there. Being raised by humans can alter the behavior of an animal, be it tiger, lion, liger, bear, elephant, whatever... but all the love and care in the world cannot keep an animal from being what it is, an animal.
If you saw a guy on youtube hit a liger in the face it was one of four things... one, fake... two, the animal has been abused so bad that it knows not to respond to such actions or else it will be abused more... three, the animal is a trained animal (circus, show, etc) and has been trained not to respond... four, the liger is a retarded genetic freak (which it is) and the man is 100% dumbass.
Trust me, any animal, no matter how much it is loved, has been trained, has been abused still has the ability to get angry or attack. The "attacks" are not always out of aggression (look at Sig and Roy), but animals can change behavior in the blink of an eye.
As far as why some people think ligers are different... (which they are NOT) it can be due to how they are being raised or due to the fact that they are bred freaks of nature who have had their poor genes messed with too much.

OK I'm going with my own knowledge here and I'm no expert but I do love animals and learn about them all the time. Ligers are a hybrid and don't occur in nature so they are raised by people and grow more accostumed to them than other big cats. I wouldn't think you could slap them around too much, I mean they are still animals and defense is a normal reaction.

its because they have been tamed by people. they have never tasted the wild before. if they were in the wild they would be very dangerous and perfect killers.
