For my daughters 16th B-Day she was supposed to have a girls day out wiht her friends.( I'm paying for it) ( nails and dinner) No she didn't have a sweet sixteen party. But for her report card she was supoosed have 2 A's, 1 C, and the rest B's. instead she has 1 A, 3 B's, and 3 C's!Although she brought up her Geometry Grade from a 37 F to 75 C. 3 grades fell one from a A to a B. and the others from B's to C's. I'm taking away her privlages until her grades get better but i'm not sure what to do about her Girls Day Out. btw 6 friends

hey she didnt flunk! I think its fair to cut out some tv/ internet time (whatever she does for fun every evening) to devote some time to studying..

I think she still deserves her day out for her birthday tho.. a girl only turns 16 once!

I am not one to point a finger at another parent what so ever but I'm just giving you advice that I learned from the Wise.
grounding kids is not gonna produce better grades, i suggest handling the two separately. this is her birthday it is a celebration of you giving birth to her and her being born. and this should be celebrated by all means!
I would take time out and ask her if you haven't already and asked her what does she think happened, unfortunately every subject is not gonna be your daughters favorite but it is her duty to do her very best and what ever she doesn't understand she needs to talk to the teacher or you! How are her notes? find out what it is! could be friends then id say have the talk with her that friends come after school and home period! My step father was in the military and he was so patient he grew up in the south and he says being African American down south you get "whooped" for having these grades but his mother was different and i think his teachings has made me a more consistent parent!
Celebrate her birthday MOM please! you seem like a fun Mom. Take care!
Keep in mind that it is so hard to be a teenager these days, peer pressure from "friends" pressure that if she gets failing grades shemay think dang do i tell my mom or not and you dont want your daughter to be dishonest with you.

Did the other grades go down a bit because she was working so hard on raising that F? Maybe that's something you should consider if you haven't already (I'm sure you have). While I'm not a fan of the "I want to be my child's best friend, screw parenting" style some people have, I think you need to be reasonable and it would probably be wise to pick your battles, especially at her age. Besides, you know the inside scoop about what kind of kid she is and even you obviously have some doubt about punishing her so severely if you are asking the question in the first place. Right?

ok ok ok, so i admit, i raced through all the grades you just wrote. But, here it is, i think you should make her 16th as special as you can. It only happens once. If you stay reading long enough on this website you will see that parents have alot worst problems than u. Punish her before and after. Not having a SWEET 16 BASH is bad enough. Dinner and nails isn't much compared to other planned events. Take the phones and computer from her....ouch that hurts.

Since it is for her birthday I would still let her have her planned event. There are other things that can be taken away. If it were something more serious, like she was caught stealing, that would be different. A week before my step-son's 16th birthday he was caught shop-lifting with his supposed, best friend and my husband canceled his birthday plans he had for him.

Its her Sweet 16! Let her have a little fun! Every girl dreams of her 16th birthday...grounding her over a couple of Cs is pointless and will only make her enraged at you. If it were anything else, I would say cancel it, but its the poor girl's birthday! I hope you let her have a little fun on her 16th birthday of all things!

hi what i would do is maybe take away other privileges away like if shes planning on getting her learners permit or maybe restrict her live so that she goes to school comes home does all her home work studies and reviews the martial she learned that day and do chores with no allowance and friends or going out until her birthday. something like that but don't take away her birthday girls night out

My 16th b-day is somthing I will always remeber. I know that it sounds corney but it up there with getting married, engaged, having children and other important events. So I would give her her day, she only has it once and you will be kicking yourself a couple years later.
