The wire speed you have given is insufficient at 170mm`s.
However, I will assume that you mean 170mm per sec.

Now, 25.4 mm = 1 inch, so:

170 mm = 170/25.4 inches, so

170 mm = 6.6929 inches.

6.6929 inches per sec = 6.6929 x 60 inches per minute since there are 60 seconds in one minute, so

6.6929 inches = 401.6 inches per minute.

So, the book is correct.
