The cost of filing depends on the nature of the lawsuit -- how much money is involved or how complex the issues -- and can be anywhere from 25 to 50 dollars for small claims, to several hundred dollars for a general suit.

But that's just filing costs -- the cost of an attorney tacks on a lot more -- again depending on the complexity of the case.

As for recordings -- it depends on the state -- some yes, some no.

You have to check with your state law regarding recorded phone calls. Small claims court is very cheap maybe $25 to file and is very informal, you dont need to have a lawyer. Sometimes sueing someone opens up problems for you, they may sue you back, "counterclaims"
