I know it is not designed for removal, and i would prefer a website with pictures, but the unit smells and needs to be fixed

you may be able to find that model online and find a service manual for it since it probably does have a way to remove it. I have a Kenmore and although it does not look like the agitator can be removed there is a cap on top that you pry off to get access to a nut underneath that you undo to remove the agitator so check for that and you can also go to allexperts.com and find a specialist there in different field so they may be able to walk you through that. Good luck with that.

My maytag (older model) has a set screw near the bottom of the agitator. Unscrew it and lift it off.

Don't be silly.......Just call the Maytag Man....
Why does it smell??? Try running a load of bleachwater to remove odor.......... You'll probably break it if you take it apart.
Good luck.........
