Nirvana. Stone Temple Pilots. Alice In Chains. Silversun Pickups( they're new but are great http://youtube.com/watch?v=2YiUXl0TwR8). Soundgarden. Sonic Youth. Modest Mouse. Pixies. Weezer( their stuff from the early 90's). The "Blood Sugar Sex Magik" Red Hot Chili Peppers album from the early 90's has a grungey feel to it at times. The song "Sweet Dreams" by Marilyn Manson has some really grungey guitar. And last but not least, SMASHING PUMPKINS!! The best band of the 1990's, they were often called grunge in their earlier years, and also, RADIOHEAD were called grunge when they first came out, and they're really great too

It's kind of a generic term but the movement includes
Nirvana
Dinosaur Jr.
Sonic Youth
Hole
Sound Garden
Pearl Jam
You'll find the music is very different between all of these bands.

Try the godfather of grunge--Neil Young. Not exactly grunge, but he's great at guitar playing, songwriting, etc. Can't sing though... But Bob Dylan can't either and look how acclaimed he is!
