I think it's subjective... For instance, it was for me... but I think ANYTHING would have been a gateway for me. I have an addictive personality, and if it wasn't MJ that served as my gateway it would have been something else.
There are plenty of people that can indulge in a little bong hit now and then without doing any other drugs. There are exceptions to everything... I just happen to be one of them.

It is like everything else it depends on the individual. There are always those that will dabble and experiment no matter what. Then there are those that simply use MJ for recreational relaxation. The Viet Nam era contributed to that, and all the guys that came back with it being ok while they were on foreign soil getting shot at.....smoke a J and ease your mind you are only moments away from death....yours or someones you take. It was a given...then they come home with their brains seared and suddenly the smoke isn't acceptable. I know several guys that never quit and never will, but they don't do hard drugs.....so who's to say? Right? Wrong? Indifferent? I venture not to guess.

"Marijuana: a gateway drug?" Absolutely false: there is no
scientific evidence that has ever demonstrated this ridiculous Prohibitionist LIE.
Cannabis is a relatively benign, non-addictive, non-toxic herb with a documented history of use that stretches back thousands of years. It has been used successfully as a fiber for clothing, a foodstuff, a fuel, a medicine, a spiritual aid, and simply for relaxation and recreation.
No civilized nation makes war against a plant, especially one as useful as Cannabis. Get informed. Get active. We can change unjust and cruel laws.

True Ask ANY recovering(myself included) or current, alcoholic or drug addict a majority 80-90 % will confirm this . It was the first illegal drug i took. In addition to LSD(lots lol),cocaine and mushrooms. Weed is definitely a Gateway drug. Anyone who says false has either never been an addict or is a lying addict not wishing to be honest with themselves.

False. Not everyone who smokes marijuana goes on to do other drugs. I've smoked for quite a few years and don't use any other drugs. I don't even take aspirin.

Consider it this way. In Scotland they have placed a smoking ban. Statistics show that smoking has decreased. But statistics also show that after the smoking ban was introduced to number of people who drink has increased. This suggests that all the nicotene addicts now get their kick from alcohol.
sorry if its a little of topic.

True for some, but false for others. I tried it twice as a teen. I'm in my late twenties now, and have never even entertained the thought of doing any of the harder drugs. I'm glad I never got hooked on the weed.
Drugs are uncool.
