About 30 some odd years ago,
a friend of my oldest brother
brought several artifacts back
from an area near the Arab Republic
at a dig, near I think, Baalbek.
He gave me this little object that fits
in the palm of your hand &
he said it was a lamp.
It's terra cotta, has circular designs in it,
representing what I think, is eternal life.
He estimated its age at somewhere,
about 3500 years old,
I have always laughed about it.
My kids all call it "the virgin's lamp."
It holds about 3 oz. of oil,
I made a wick for it out of some flax,
that I had grown and corded & worked into thread.
This is strange: When the lamp is full and you burn it for light, it will keep the flame for 10 hours, but if you pour out exactly half, the flame will only burn for 2 hours and all of the oil will be used. We've done this with several different types of oil.
And pretty much, we got the same results each time.
I'd like to know its value, to me it is priceless,
because of our experiments & that Nathan brought this to me, when I was so sick.
When Nathan passed away last year,
he left me the mate to it and a mold of it,
so that if I wanted to make a casting
of the "Virgin's lamp",
for the grandkids to have for
show and tell or whatever, I'd be able to do this.

If the roadshow ever comes to Houston, again, I'll be taking the 2 lamps, the casting mold, and the documents of the dig site. I think it might be very intersting, just to know.

I did.

I brought a huge piece of artwork that was made just after Commodore Perry opened up Japan.

it was a fabric piece witha representation of the American Eagle and a small insert of Washington Crossign the deleware, but done in such a way that the eagle looked more like a kabuki performer.

Nothing...Its what I already do...I am an estate auctioneer. I don't collect anything or have anything because I hate that people only put a value on items because someone says it is valueable. Doesn't make any sense to me even though its my job... I guess I have just learned that a ceramic vase...is just a ceramic vase no matter how old or who made it.

A rose colored glass pitcher that used to belong to my grandmother. It's patterned all over with cherry blossoms, and someone once told my mother it was depression glass. I'd love to know for sure.
