Considering that the counterinsurgency warfare mindset in Iraq has not only failed to bring resolution to a stunt that was based on vindicating a former failed U.S.president by his bumbling son, there is a better than even chance that Reid did nothing but tell the truth.

If you study military history, tactics and strategy at the War College, you will come away with the disturbing knowledge that most victories are due as much to dumb luck as anything else.

The only mistake Reid made was to confine his remarks to too narrow a target. And yes, he was part of the problem himself, but the three words that I have yet to hear a politician voice are "I was wrong".

Well, you seem to consider them "despicable" -- so, that's as good an adjective as any.

Personally, I haven't seen him do anything worse recently than dozens of other senators and majority leaders over the past decade -- but then, I'm not partisan.
