Because the band's are popular and the lyrics speak to them in a way. plus, alot of these bands are friends with each other so there is also a connection part.

OK people for the record just because one listens to My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy etc. does not make them "emo" and quite frankly why should we be judged and labeled by the music we listen to? i mean really, we listen to that music because we can relate to the lyrics, or their music actually impacts us in some way. plus we each are our own individual person, we don't follow one stereotype to the "T". we are humans and as my friends say, we should not be labeled... we are not mayonnaise, mustard, ketchup, or soup. And honestly what's to say it's just a phase?

emos dont listen to cobras. they're an anti-emo band. 'emos' listen to the other stuff because the lyrics help them and they like the music. it just speaks to them=) cobra starship RULES.
btw: 90% of these answers are absolute BULL. i cant understand why the answers are getting the exact opposite thumbs sign they deserve>=( idiots. the avalanche and drama person are the only ones with REALLY good answers.

Not many people do listen to Fall Out Boy, I think it is only the "emos wannabe" that do like F.O.B. But the only band that I think is emo from all the ones you've mentioned is The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus. I don't think they consider MCR, to be emo anymore.

i am called "emo" ALOT and i love my chemical romance's and fall out boy's music cause they prove pretty good points, (like in the song Teenager by my chem. they are talking about how some teens act out the music video is funny) and some are just really funny good songs, some are sad songs but they have a point and i love the sound of a guitar :] so....i hoped that answered your question :] .

emo is a genre of music, get that straight people! i listen to all of that music, and im not emo! LABELS ARE FOR SOUP CANS, AND "EMO" IS A GENRE OF MUSIC!! i'm tired of being labeled just because of the music i like!
my gawsh people... we listen to music because we can relate to it or maybe just in general we like it. like many people said, music is universal! you dont have to be "emo" to like the music....

OK for one there is no such thing as an emo person. i like fall out boy, mcr, and rja but that does not make me emo. i also listen to rap and metal but i am not quote un quote emo. so no they don't just listen to it because they are emo. and why they probably listen to it is because they frickin like it.
