I Bought a used 89 ford festiva for $500, just to get around town. The car was running until after I changed the spark plugs and wires. After changing the spark plugs and the wires it ran fine then after a good 20 minutes on the road it stalled on me. It was if It had ran out of gas, only the gas tank was full. The ignition and the battery are fine it's just that the engine will not turn over, any ideas?

When you turn the key to START it what happens?
1) Nothing happens? (dead battery?, loose battery cables, or it's not in "park" all the way.)
2) You hear a "click", but nothing else? (loose battery cables, bad starter, bad starter solenoid, or broken engine)
3) You hear the starter turning, but the engine doesn't turn? (low battery voltage, bad starter or bad ring gear on flywheel/flex plate)
4) The starter turns the engine, but the engine won't start up? (out of gas, bad fuel pump, plugged fuel filter, broken timing belt, no spark)
5) The engine turns over, but very slowly. (weak battery, worn starter, out of engine oil)
6) the engine turns, but there's an awful banging noise? (something is broken inside the engine)

You can still run out of gas with a full tank if your in-line fuel filter is clogged. Make sure you are getting gas to the carburetor then check to see if you are getting spark out of the coil. When you pulled the wires off the plugs you might have stretched the wire and ruined it. Be sure that all your wires are attached to match the firing order of the engine. Usually the firing order can be found on the manifold. However, if it was running fine after the change I don't think the order is an issue.
What I used to do was pour a little gas (like a couple of tablespoons) directly into the carburetor and then if it kicked over I would know that there was a gas delivery problem. Clogged fuel lines are very common as are fuel pump and dirty gas tank issues. Remember you have a car that is nearly 30 years old and it could be so many things. Be patient when trouble shooting and you will find out what the problem is.

if your engine doesn't turn over, put a wrench or ratchet with socket on the crankshaftbolt by the harmoinc balancer pulley and see if it does turn. if not something could be jaming the flywheel/flexplate, engine could be seized, oil in the cylinder which can stop your piston from moving up(pull spark plug's and turn over engine).

did you mess up the plug wire placement? it could be the wrong plugs or wires for the engine.
