OK, I'm new here.
I'm an addict. Mostly meth/ice but if I can't get that ...dah dah dah.
I have a new CLEAN friend. I have HOPE now.
I am being discharged from rehab in 3 days cause I have warrants out for me. No violence or nothing, DUI, got caught with Xanax, disorderly conduct, no shows for court, bailed on my PO..
I am poor and don't have any insuranse. I don't want to rehab in jail. I want to get clean then go turn myself in. I KNOW if I have to go straight to jail I'll just use again when I get out.
I need HELP. Nobody will hear me cauz i am poor but I really am sober as I am riting this and want to get clean and help kids whos parents are addicts.
My friend says that since I'm in Ga. it could be hard cuz it's like the meth capital and the courts might wanna make an example out of me.
Thanks for listening anyhow.
K

Getting clean and being clean are two different things. In jail, you get clean because you don't have access to drugs. That doesn't affect your attitude at all. Being clean is a conscious decision, taken of your own free will, not to use. Being clean is not dependent on where you are. You can get clean in jail, but that won't make you clean. You can also be clean in jail, and that has no bearing on relapse. Get it?

Going to jail won't make you relapse if you have already committed to staying clean. It could help, in fact, by removing temptation for the necessary detox period. An addicted cigarette smoker will light up every time he drives a car. Avoiding cars will not break the addiction, nor will driving cars cause a committed quitter to smoke. Get it now?

There are dozens of triggers that make addicts crave. Active addicts seek out those triggers as an excuse to use. Committed, recovering addicts, while they understand the triggers, try to avoid them but recognize that the trigger itself has no more power than they allow it to have. Ex-smokers drive cars every day. They need to have more resolve to stay ex-smokers at those times, but the situation doesn't dictate automatic failure. Only their resolve will dictate whether they will succeed or not.

As a side note, you will never be an 'ex-meth addict'. You will be addicted for the rest of your life. You will never know a day that your body won't crave meth. That being said, those cravings will lessen over time. That all-powerful, dominant voice in your head that tells you to use will become meek and whiny, like a child that wants candy in the grocery store line. Eventually, you will be able to tell that voice to shut the hell up, like good parents do with their children. And it will comply, like well-behaved children should. That will be the end of that discussion.

Stay clean. they might listen. I know it is really difficult and being poor or rich doesn't matter with meth. It's nasty. I have a niece lost to meth and she doesn't care about anything. She has plenty of family, 3 kids that love her and she left them all to live with a boyfriend that gets her high and beats her, while she supports them-yeah, you can guess.

You just have to find the strength-it's in you. A life on meth never gets better but always gets worse. It will degrade you, take any self respect and try to kill you.

Very best of luck-you can do it. Many don't but others do. Be strong.

I highly recommend a twelve step program like Narcotics anonymous and or A/A. Do 90 meetings in 90 days. Get a sponsor and let the sponsor guide you are your journey to recovery. Your recovery is more important than any person, place, or thing . Through recovery you can acquire the skill set necessary to make the amends to the legal system and anyone else. So stop worrying about the future or what to do when you get out. One day at a time. One moment at a time.

Do you have family that will speak up for you? Especially if they live in another area. If you show you have another place to go it will help the courts decide in your favor. Best of luck.
