Anyone can run for President.
BUT it takes:
1. A ton of money or the charisma to be able to raise a ton of dough.
2. An incredible campaign staff that can figure out how to get you on the ballot in all 50 states- and fight the legal challenges against your petitions.
3. A very thick skin to be able to take all of the media scrutiny.
4. An ego from hell to believe you're actually good enough to go through the torturous, dirty process.

Anyone who can meet the following requirements can run:

1) 35 years of age or older
2) Born in the US (or territory, military installation etc.)
3) Has resided in the US for 14 or more years.

Simple enough. If you meet these requirement you can run. Good luck. You'll need a couple hundred million dollars.

Only few run for the position of the US President because the campaign is very expensive and the chances of winning is minimal. Only the likes of Clinton who a rich enough even when losing are the ones given the opportunity to run.

VOTE for your choice as US President on my 360 degrees blog and know who will likely win.

guess cause it's worse paid , worser than jobs in the economy. it seems to be a boring job, it's all about the same: some politics, bit of economy, some wars - since thousands of years. and not everyone would like to live just in washington dc. and who really would love to have lunch together with people one does not like so far. cause as a president one may not drive a car by himself. cause it's impossible to take a bath at seaside without a hundred jounalists watching you. so I do not wonder that only so few people run for such a job.

Its the American way - everyone CAN run but if you haven't got a lazy $500M or so you haven't got a chance.

Any wonder the US is run for big BIG business - the're the ones who bought the Presidency.

One would need money, big backers and mostly name recognition in order to run a successful bid for any election.

Because they need 3 important things:
Money, or the ability to raise it; connections, knowing the right people to help you there; & desire, for power mostly.
