Yes, Addictive tendencies are inherited. Depression and Neuroses are inherited. Extra Y chromosomes run in families.( A larger group of XYY men are found in prison populations than is statistically possible in the general population)
Habits and attitudes are modeled and either mirrored or rejected.
C. :)!!

I think that awareness is 75% of the battle. If you are aware of the potential, you can always self-police it. With things like mental illness and alcoholism, you can have a genetic factor which is something you can't change. Attitude and habits and the expression thereof comes with maturity and social awareness. If something happens in your nueclear family and you think it's normal, then you may emulate this behavior. If you then get out into the world and watch other people and are mature enough to understand the general values of societial acceptibility, you can change your behavior if it is contrary to those values.

I read the book No More Mr Nice Guy and it talked a bit about this.

For guys, a lot of the time they will look at their fathers and do a 180 turn and be completely different from them.

I think if people grow up with say alcoholic parents and they have a good head on them then they will see this and think "damn alcohol is really bad, i wont be like that".

I don't know a lot about htis though. Great question.

I think mentality is a major factor in this. Those who overcome will be very strong and find in themselves a love and compassion that is above all. Those who are weak-minded and blame the world will falter and never see the light. How we treat others is reflective of the way we feel and our own issues with ourselves.

Often. Yes there are somethings that you become accustomed to because they are "normal" for you. You have learned this from your family of origin.

No. You may have a predisposition to lean that way but by no means is it a give.
