The award goes to the "player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to ice hockey."

Last year, Phil Kessel won the award for his battle with testicular cancer. This year, Jason Blake was diagnosed with leukemia. I know that we're only a few games into the season, and anything can happen. But I think Jason Blake has a darn good shot at winning the trophy this year.

Personally, I'm picking Tim Connolly for the Masterton. He went through a lot as part of his recovery from post-concussion syndrome. Blake hasn't been in any pain. Connolly has had massive headaches. Blake only found out due to a routine exam. Connolly got a pounding.

No disrespect to Blake, but Connolly has my vote.

Well, let's first see if he perseveres and shows sportsmanship. Battling cancer can usually win the award I guess. My vote would be Joe Sakic who is doing some great things, is always a sportsman and dedicated. I just don't think that contracting a disease is a cause for automatically getting the award. Seems more of a pity award when they do it like that.
I've known old people who have battled the disease multiple times. I just don't get the drama that comes with it.

i might could say Jose Theodore. Being a caps fan i'm in all probability biased, yet his fifty 4 day old son died in the process the summer season, yet he comes lower back to play devoid of lacking a beat. no rely what the medi has been asserting approximately our goaltending, he has performed at a severe point all 3 hundred and sixty 5 days long. that's what i might call detication and preservence to the sport of hockey. yet considering that he did no longer make this public, different than for one article in the Washington submit, maximum folk do no longer know approximately this. that's a great article in case you will hit upon it.

Kessel had surgery... is Blake even going to miss a game?! I'd hate to see getting sick and coming back a common criteria among future award winners.
