Happiness may be acheived by realizing that one has no control. I think that realizing that we have no control is the first step to happiness. If we try to manipulate what is around us, it will inveitably lead to frustration. Think about meditation, one of the main goals of meditation is to see yourself as one with the universe, to accept yourself and those around you for what they are. I think being control of what is around a person can make them calm and collected, which is also a wonderful feeling.

No, not at all. Control has nothing to do with it. For the most part, happy people are the ones who have made up their minds to be happy.

The person that knows he has no control is the one that has the most. But being happy isn't a control issue or lack thereof. Happiness is spiritual.

The only control that exists is the control over the 'self'. Control over people and situations is a fallacy. We are all stones, skipping over a pond, creating waves. The radiation of those waves interact with the waves made by others. How those waves interact creates different waves, and in so doing, influence still others. The confluence of these waves equals the sum of our existence.
One must navigate the peaks and valleys of these waves and use them to ride ourselves into what we believe to be happiness.

No, in matter of fact it probably hurts to be in control. When you are truly happy doing something, you are rarely self conscious, it's like you are whatever you're doing. You're so unselfconscious, you don't even bother to ask yourself, Am I happy? (I think this is what sports psychologists would call being "in the zone").
When you're in "control", your too involved in planning and controlling everything to be able to lose yourself in the way that happiness requires.
I'll make one exception to this. When your not in control and someone else is (a very unhappy person--because they're in control), you tend to wish you were in control because you don't like the direction they are taking you and you wish you were doing something else.

To be in control might different than having discipline.. In many ways happiness comes from having trust in what is from the inner self.. the one that is better, smarter, connected to eternity etc.

No one needs to be in control, or be controlled.. but one's reasoning power/rational ability should rule over/control over one's emotions, appetites, and the will, to be in the safe side(happier results with no or little regrets)while undergoing through all the relevant facets in one's life

Happiness is not something you control. It's not external, it's internal and it's a choice. Control has to do with fear and happiness and fear do not go together.

No.
To Know what you already posses - Inner joy;
Which got hidden over the years since birth;
is the secret of happiness;
unaffected by what happens around us.
We have to ask ourselves whether the richest/most powerful/wealthiest/who have everything/etc are happy.
