All these american kids are talking about it like it is so cool. What is the big deal? over in Australia these brands don't even exist.
Do you think Americans are too obsessed with brand names? I have even seen americans making fun of other people who dont wear brand names.
In Australia we do have brand names, but the difference is that people are not considered cool because of the brand they wear. And most people don't even care.

Lucky you!! I know brands aren't that important, but I actually like the clothes just because they are clothes, not the name brands. And of course I hear people making fun of others, and it does kinda hurt, but there's no way to stop it.

You know what? I don't even know how those stores got so popular and cool anyway.

Being obsessed with labels is just another marketing technique to part "sheeple" from their money. Many kids will grow up and continue to live beyond their means (or off their parents) so they can impress people they don't even know and don't even really like.
You're right, no one really cares when it really comes down to it. Everyone is too obsessed with themselves and their brand-named crap to really notice anyone else. If they do notice, it's to feel superior over the ones without; or to size up the competition, and go out and get better brand-named crap. Sad really.
Please, don't generalize ALL Americans. We are not all this bad, and surprisingly we are not all "sheeple".

Looking at these answers is offensive. Some people, like me, buy them because they (A&F) fit better than other brands. Which would you rather have: 20 tops that don't fit or 5 tops that do fit?? I'd pick what fits! I've shopped there since I can remember for that very reason. I don't care for 'cool,' I care for what I like and what fits! If I see a cute tee at Wal*Mart or KMart or the Family Dollar, I'm gonna get it if it fits. If you think thats mainstream, I pity you- If you think thats real, then good job. The clothes do not make the girl, the personality makes the girl.

Yea tons of dirty blond diet soda drinking "DADDY!" girls wear ripped blue jeans that cost $80.
When I wanted to be cool, I just bought walmart jeans for $15 and used sand paper to make them cool. Then again, these brands werent as popular in the 1990s.

Hollister and Abercrombie outlets exist in the U.S and Canada. Some of their clothes are just plain ugly and overpriced. Here it's also about brand names.

If you wear a shirt with the Hollister "seagull" on it or the Abercrombie "moose" symbol....then you're considered "cool, popular or rich". But some of their clothes ARE pretty cute.

Those are the two overrated brand names that many (not all) american teenagers seem to adore. That's called mainstream fashion.
I'm not American, but I don't want to generalize. Some Americans have quite refined taste.

Gahh. I love how other countries seem to be more sane than this one. Yes, people are crazed about having what's hot and what's considered "hot" is the most expensive brand names you can think of. Too bad it's only a waste of money!

they are these brand named clothing that mostly white people wear. They are not the best made of clothing but since they have this "name" to it, people go nuts over buying these things in the malls. Middle class to upper middle class generally purchase these things...and some lower middle class when things go on sale.
