store says its ok as long as I dont put more than 1 of these and 4-5 fish of 2-3 inches long in there with it true? other four all compatable as no other tangs

It might be okay when you first get one, but the smallest tang you're likely to come across is the yellow, and at 8 inches for their adult size, they should have a very minimum of a 55 gallon as an adult (a 75 or 90 would be even better). That's not just because of their size, but their activity level. Tangs are active and like to race around the tank - in something too small, they have no swimming room.

Yes, but i hope you know all tangs are marine fish,so it will need a saltwater tank.But one tang,any color, (i like blue),would do fine with a few other small fish in a 40 gallon.

Despite what others may say,a saltwater set up,if it's a fish only tank,is not that much more costly than a fresh water.


One tang (despite what someone else posted) will have plenty of swimming room in a 40 gallon.
