AB = 3.4 units
AC = 8 units
CD = 2 units

Now,
AB + BC = AC
3.4 + BC = 8
BC = 8 - 3.4
BC = 4.6 units

Also,
BC + CD = BD
BD = 4.6 + 2
BD = 6.6 units

BD would equal AC-AB+CD

= 8 - 3.4 + 2
=6.6

8-3.4=BC
BC=4.6
BC+CD=BD
CD=2
4.6+2=6.6
BD=6.6
Let me point out that they are asking only the measure of line BD not the whole thing. So this is right.

the answer is 6 or 10
6 if that thing before the 8 is a minus sign (-)
or 10 if it is an equal sign

6.4

AB: 3.4
BC: 4.4
CD: 2

So add BC (4.4) and CD (4) to get 6.4.

This is really simple, basic Geometry.
