check fluid level, you probably need to get it checked out at tranny specialist

First thing to do is check your transmission fluid level. This is a dipstick similar to your oil dipstick .When you remove the dipstick it should have a [cold and hot] carved into it and if after cleaning it and reinserting it nothing is on it then you should add some tranny fluid.A very long small nosed funnel is needed to do this and try to add the the fluid at 1/2 quart/litre at a time. The only thing worse than a tranny low on fluid is one with too much fluid.
This is all I have to offer you for advice and I do hope it can be of some help to you.

Sounds like it could be the CV Joint. I had the same problem with an 87 Dodge Omni--wouldn't go in reverse. Google "CV Joint" and see if it tells of the same symptoms you had. Good Luck with it.

if it was low on fluid it won't go forward either. Have someone help you and see if the gear linkage is moving the link on the transmissionl,
