Of course it is OK for someone to resign to focus on running for a new office. If anything, the problem is NOT resigning while focusing on a new campaign instead of the office they are being PAID to fill.

Yes, it is OK for elected officials to resign while he/she campaigns for a new position during election so that he will not take advantage of his present position in order to further his political position especially if he occupies position in governments like senators, congressmen, etc. It is a sign of humility.

Better than keeping their position while focusing on a new campaign, which is kind of like robbing the taxpayers.
