You are in an empty room and you have a transparent glass of water. The glass is a right cylinder, and it looks like it's half full, but you're not sure. How can you accurately figure out whether the glass is half full, more than half full, or less than half full? You have no rulers or writing utensils.

Tilt it to the side as to pour out the liquid. When the liquid reaches the lip of the glass, if it is half full then the liquid at the bottom of the glass will come even with the rim of the bottom, where the side meets the bottom. If it's more than half full it won't have reached that point and if it's less than half full then it will pass that point.

I'm not certain if I am explaining this so that you can envision it. If you could cut the glass in half diagonally from the lip of it to the bottom edge, then if the glass was half full it would take up all of that space. If you tilt the glass to one side to create that effect, then if the water would fill up that amount of space it is half full. If it takes up less space then it is less than half full and if it takes up more than it is more than half full.

properly definite you've were given it, even though it in basic terms works because you're telling us that you comprehend the objective of filling or emptying the glass... If i pick an finished glass and intend to top up then the glass is 1/2 finished. If i pick emtpy glasses and that i see a tumbler with liquid in it already that is 1/2 empty till I pour something away. yet this situation isn't water-tight both lol

Put your (very flat) hand over the top of the glass and invert it. The water surface should be at the same place it was when upright.
