John F. Kennedy didn't announce that he was running for President in 1960 until January of 1960. Of course then the primaries didn't play as big of a role as the conventions but you can still see the difference.
THe primary system, which really started in 1976, was a good way for lesser known challengers to be able to compete against party establishment candidates (like how the little known Georgia Governor Jimmy Carter was nominated and elected that year) and you still see it today to some extent, someone who scores an early victory in Iowa or NH can gain enough momentum to compete with someone more nationally known (Kerry and Edwards knocking off Dean and Gephardt in 2004) but now, the election starts 2 years earlier and somehow those with less name recognition are even less able to compete. This race is dominated by political celebrities on both sides so that does play a factor but it seems to be who starts the earliest and who can get that early money.

i'm rather pulling for a self sufficient occasion Suprise! i understand that the only considerable self sufficient occasion to EVER come on the brink of triumphing a Presidental election became into Teddy Roosevelt who represented the Bull-Moose occasion, yet i think that the two the Republicans and Democrats are too busy bickering approximately each and each others 'agendas' and not focusing on the want OF the people! I for one won't vote for the two occasion as a results of fact the two events have strayed from the belief of constrained government. the two the republicans and democrats are splitting this usa into civil war. sure, I mentioned war. What else do you call it whilst the anybody is split, the anybody is scuffling with for one yet another's ideals, and the government and the representatives are under no circumstances waiting to reconcile their alterations? This became into between the reason's that the Civil war became into created, as a results of fact of splits between the events and the people (Slavery became into no longer the reason of war, it became into the challenge of States Rights). i've got faith that if an self sufficient runs, people won't brush him off as probable as before, yet i understand that the potential of a 0.33 occasion candidate triumphing is narrow. inspite of each and every thing, united states of america of america has commonplace the Democrat and Republican events as a results of fact the main conventional, even although they the two f' up, you recognize the two or is going to win. Oh, how I wish the revitilization of the Federalist occasion might desire to ensue!

Yes. And here's what upsets me.
Many of those running are members of congress. That's their job. While they're running all over creation politicking and fund raising, what about their jobs? What about the people they represent???? Those are the ones getting screwed.

takes about two years or close to it to put together an organization, raise millions of dollars, and get enough public name recognition to win, so NO, I do not think it is starting too early at all.
