I think the statement means that fat ladies generally have a better singing voice and a sa result they can hold a high,long note....better than a slim woman.It also means that due to their size and weight they are able to fight and wrestle better sings her means until a fat lady arrives,thus they to be victorious in most of their fights

I believe it has something to do with opera- being that, fat ladies have strong singing voices so they would often be the closing act?

no slim ladies cannot..they arent as good of opera singers....and i believe one day when the world ends...a fat lady will sing.
