Is Reese an ok name for a boy? I really like it, but I've met many more girls named Reese then I have boys. Thanks in advance for all the help!

The spelling Reese is more common for girls -- many of whom were named AFTER Reese Witherspoon became popular, although her first name is actually Laura ;) -- but the name itself is a traditionally masculine Welsh name. And an attractive one at that! :)

I'd simply stick with Rhys, the classic Welsh spelling (and more visually appealing anyway, in my opinion). At the very least, use Reece rather than Reese. It is the most common spelling for boys and doesn't even appear on the girl side (unlike Reese, which is nearly in the top 150 for girls). Rhys is strictly-masculine as well -- not in the top 1000 girl names and used for girls even less often than Reece. It's possible to come across one, I'm sure, but that would generally just be parents that were unfamiliar with the name or its roots (the same sort who might use Francis for their daughters LOL).

Hope that helps!

Ps. As far as actual usage is concerned, the numbers are fairly similar. About 2,000 girls were named Reese last year, while a little over 1,500 boys were (when you combine all three spellings).

I love Reese for a boy. But of course many more people associate that spelling with Ms. Witherspoon. For a boy, I've always seen it spelled Rhys, like Johnathan Rhys Meyers.

I like it! It's different. Like Reese Witherspoon or Reeses Peieces...
Although the only Reese I know of his Reese Witherspoon, I prefer it for a boy.

I've never met anyone names Reese, male nor female. I've heard of Reese Witherspoon though. I think it's a BEAUTIFUL name! You should definitely use it for him. It's also my favorite chocolate bar, so it works on so many levels for me. Good luck!
