same item a few days ago and it was perfect-could the store have frozen them or are they stale or mouse infested?

If they were from a very large store, take them back. A Hershey rep. calls on every large store about once per month. If from a small store, call the Hershey 800#. Keep the wrapper as it will have a number on it that will tell Hershey every thing about the bar.

Well, what you're describing is called sugar bloom. This occurs when moisture collects on the surface of the chocolate, making the chocolate dissolve somewhat. When the moisture evaporates, it leaves the sugar behind on the surface, creating white spots and off-colored chocolate.

It's still okay to eat, but the texture and taste may be a bit off. The store needs to keep their candy in a less humid environment, but they're not necessarily old.

I got a few chocolate bars like that before with Halloween candy, but I've never bought bars in stores that were like that. I'm pretty sure the coloring/texture means that they were stale, but I doubt any mice were involved.

usually when chocolate gets old or isn't stored at the right temp it turns color and looks chalky on the outside, and if it's been in your house a few months it's prolly OK to eat it BUT- if you're buying it brand new at a store and it looks like that, take it back and don't eat it. you don't know where it's been and how old it is. better yet, call hershey's directly and give them the info from the wrapper and tell them how pissed you are, and they should not only refund you but give you a bunch of coupons too.

I think they are stale . Did you check for an expiration date? well the best thing to do is call the company and give them your comment. I don't think they are mouse infested because they would of chewed through the paper and foil you can easily spot that.

I would return the chocolate to the store. They sound like they are old and stale.

Thats a sign of staleness.... and has nothing to do with vermin infestation...

Sounds like the merchant wasnt rotating their stock properly...

I would not eat those, but I would call the 88 number on the package and tell them. You should get some kind of coupon for free candy. It's worth a shot.

it sounds to me like they are stale - and very old. the stores are supposed to rotate stock and throw away the bad ones. if you dont care about the few bucks spent, i would still take them back to the store and show them to the manager - maybe they will keep on top of it

They were probably left out in the heat too long.

If the wrapper was intact there is no way a mouse could have gotten to them.
