These are the main, unchanging core values. Most other issues are added to party policy in order to pick up single issue voters - like racists or greens.

Republicans believe that a free market can provide almost everything that a civilization needs in the most efficient manner possible, and the government should stay out of its way. Many republicans also believe in Social Darwinism, in which the poor, ill, and elderly should suffer the consequences of their condition without assistance as a way of strengthening society and serving as a example for others.

Democrats believe that unrestrained capitalism has caused great harm on society in the past and business needs to be held to responsibility by laws, much the same as people. They believe that because the disparity of power between a corporation, or great wealth, and an individual worker is so great, the government must protect the interests of the individual.

It is about the government as nurturing parent or drunken abusive father.

There is considerable research that shows that those who grow up in abuse lose many reasoning skills and accept illogical conclusions as they are abused further if they don't. The abandonment they feel, is echoed in their pursuit of only personal objectives, not giving to others the empathy that was never given to them.

They don't hold power accountable, because there was no way to hold their father accountable for his abuse. This leads to two different approaches.

One to be the Teachers Pet and gain power by supporting power, to achieve success by following the rules of the leader. Down this path lies Fascism.

The other to be the rebel, not openly challenge authority, but to skate by the rules, turning them to advantage, making the blundering father figure irrelevant, or even to disappear. Down this path is Libertarianism.

On the Democratic side, Government is also seen as an expanded version of the family, but instead of a selfish Father ruling the rest, they see the family as a means of creating the best children possible, doing everything they can to enable the children to reach the greatest potential possible.

They do this by opening paths to success rather than punishing failure, and building teams that operate in mutual support rather than gangs that obey their leaders. That the expansion of opportunity for everyone to participate, advances the cause for all.

In that sense leadership is held accountable to the rest of the team, that while the leader organizes, and advances the goals of the team, it is the team and not the leader that has the power.

That real Teams are better at achieving group goals than Gangs is hard to dispute, and hardly bias to say so. That unfettered Gangsters have spent Billions of dollars to create the illusion that unaccountable leadership is somehow equally reasonable, ranks with their previous "Divine right" of Kings to justify their evil.

There may come a day that there is reasonable disagreement about what sorts of accountability are best to keep leadership of any organization from looting or abusing that organization, instead of asking if there should be any accountability at all. But that day is not this day.

This is a very basic reply

Democrats: Bigger government paid for with more taxes where the government takes care of the people. More from the rich, less from the poor. More of an equal playing field where everyone is equal.

Republicans: Less government letting more people keep their money to stimulate the economy creating more wealth for everyone. Where more effort results in more rewards.
