Right now I'm a senior in HS. I'm thinking about whether or not I should go to college. I'm not an exceptionally bad student but I'm not an A-student either. I'll say that I'm about a C student right now. The thing is, I love learning but I have trouble getting the work done. When I'm faced with a big assignment, I get freaked out and leave it to the last minute. I'm often late turning them in. I feel very unmotivated a lot of the time because it seems that everybody around me doesn't care about school. I want to go to college because I feel there's a chance I might blossom there but I'm afraid that my old HS habits will hold me back. Is there hope for a student like me?

I've asked everyone about this and my mother suggests I should just work and make money. My friends tell me that I should either go anyway, go to a community college, or find something I'm passionate about and go then.

To be blunt. Typical colleges are not for C average students. Your chances of getting into an average school, is slime to none. Community college is probably your best bet. Take some classes there, and see if it is for you.

You might not have that problem if you are studying something you really love. Like for me, I started with Physics. While it was something I liked, I didn't love it and I had the same problem as you. But I figured out that I love to read, and so I started on an English major, which is mostly reading and discussing topics in class. I find I am motivated to do the work and go to class.
I would start with a community college and take one or two classes and see how you're feeling. Sometimes college isn't right for everyone.

Well my cousin did not know what he wanted to be so he took community college for two years and worked at the same time. Maybe do the same so you can tell which you look forward for the most, school or your work! I think you need to give school a chance and take subjects that you enjoy. There are so many different kinds of schools... and people are strong at certain things. Maybe find a school that does not have big assignments. Duno, I do not have more info than that.

there is hope for anyone to improve their learning skills but try to go to college with something in mind to do after you graduate or you may not gain that much from college.
One thing that will help your grades is to go to a health food store and get a bottle of DMAE, a natural substance with no side effects, that will improve both concentration and memory and that may help you not get freaked out by the big assignments. As far as your habits, you need to make out a budget for your time as you would money and set aside the time you study, the time you watch tv, and so on. Don't worry about sticking exactly to it but the closer you come, the more efficient you will become as to making yourself sit and study when you need to. Good luck in college!!

I don't know why your mother told you to work and "make money" because you won't be making much money without a degree. You will not be able to get a job making more than $30,000 a year without a bachelors degree. In today's world, you can't live on your own making anything less than that!
Go to community college and try things out, then transfer to a 4 year university after you spend 2 years in community college. GET YOUR DEGREE! This is one time where you shouldn't listen to your mother.

College is much more interesting than high school...however, it is much more work and you can get behind really fast.
A good way to see if you like it is to take one or two classes and see how you do.
Another alternative is to do something like a licensed vocational nurse degree. While there is still studying involved, you will be with a smallish class for the entire time you are in, most of whom will want to have study groups, and it is very active. Plus, you can get it done in a year; if you liked it, you can go on for an RN, and if you didn't, well, you have a degree and can always get a job.

College is not for everyone, that being said time spent learning is never wasted and you will come out the other side with a greater understanding of who you are and what you want. Go to school, find out who you want to be then make it happen.

At least go to a CC, if you can get in a State College.
Students are more motivated in college, except the dorm hogs.
