Not easy to answer a question like this because I doubt there are any such statistics. Out of curiosity, why do you ask? Nothing against any hard-working pizza delivery person, but this is hardly the career where one considers relocationg to improve your lot in life.

If you're asking all about gas, rent, insurance, etc... i'm guessing that you may enjoy the college town life, where pizza delivery is a popular gig. Vegas is the place to go if you want to be a blackjack dealer; Manhattan NY is the place if you want to be a stockbroker... but there's no 'pizza delivery guy' city where aspiring amateur delivery guys hope to go pro someday. That being said, any "college town" is generally compact [less money spent on gas], lots of parties and social outlets [and the presence of your 'bud], has lots of cheap student-rented homes, and orders lots of pizza.
If that's not your idea of perfect, you could go the other way and be a delivery guy for some upscale community that sells pies for like 24 bucks with white sauce and tofu on top... but i have the feeling you'll like my first answer better. :)

Pizza delivery must first be delivered within the specified time as quoted. Driving an economical Hybrid car is also key. Delivery routes must be kept to within 2-5 miles within the location. Pizza must be delivered "hot" with excellent customer service with a big smile on your face. Best city to deliver pizza would be Chicago, Illinois. If delivered on time, in California the expected tip to the driver would be at a rate of 20% of the purchase price, not including the delivery fee of about $2.00 on average for a high quality pizza.

I am a pizza delivery driver for Dominos and I can tell you first hand that we live off of our tips. It is similar to being a waitress. We get paid below minimum wage but are able to take home our tips. Not to mention the gas, mileage and maintenance on the car that we must spend money on. I hate when people do not tip at all it makes me feel like i wasted my time especially since i am always friendly, nice and accommodating. it does not bother me when only a few people do it but i have had nights when 5 or more people did not tip and it really cut into my income for the night. No one would be a delivery driver if they were not desperate to make money. Also, Dominos rounds to the nearest dollar for our tips. So if you ever do tip a deliver driver, please give them at least $0.51 or $2.51 so that they can get the full next dollar amount. Thanks!

California is by far the best state to be a delivery driver in since it has a $10 per hour minimum wage (going up to $10.50 next year) and employees are required by law to pay delivery drivers the full minimum wage, even though we make tips, and even when we're out on deliveries. No other state has this, most states allow employers to pay tipped employees less than minimum wage. Also, not every store pays equal mileage. Some stores pay a flat rate, like $1 per delivery, which is very bad. Some stores pay commission, such as 5% of the total order. That's also terrible. The best mileage rate is where they pay you per mile driven. Go around to a bunch of different stores and ask for their mileage policy. Calculate how much your car costs per mile driven, and look for stores that pay at least that amount. It is very possible to make a very comfortable living delivering pizza, I earn $50K per year delivering for dominos in SoCal. 3/4 of the drivers at my store drive brand new cars.

Probably in Manhattan, but I can't picture a pizza delivery guy making enough to live in Manhattan as well. Good luck.
