Or, option 3, souls are just human concepts like gods and other mythologies, invented to explain the unexplainable such as consciousness and what happens after we die.
We already know that everything that makes you, "you" is stored as the connections and spacings of the neurons in your brain. Your personality, memories, experiences, beliefs, etc. are just patterns within the neural net of your brain. When your brain is injured, these things can be changed or erased. A few minutes after you die, your neurons shrivel up, breaking their connections. When that happens, all the information that is "you" is lost forever.
If there were such a thing as a soul that existed from the body, it would be a mindless entity incapable of thinking, knowing or remembering, possessing none of the traits that once defined the person it inhabited.
Call it the "soul of the gaps": the more we know about the workings of the brain, the less room there is for anything resembling a soul. And while we don't know _everything_ about the brain's functioning, we do know quite a bit.

Philosophically you can come up with several variations to this question. From a biblical perspective, you got the question all wrong again. What makes up the Soul? Two ingredients make up the Soul. God form a body and breathed His breath/spirit into man and he became a living Soul.
So, the body, aside from the breath of life, is nothing but clay or earth. The Soul on the other hand needs two things to be in existence, a body and the breath of life from God.
Like a light from a lamp. The lamp stand and bulb is the body. The electricity is like the breath of life. When you put electricity to the bulb you have light or living soul.
You would not ask is the bulb a part of the light or the light a part of the bulb. The light is a separate entitiy. So is the Soul. However, to make this entity you must have both ingredients. The body is an ingredient along with the breath of life to create a soul.
This Soul is what will be judge on judgment day. God will remove the breath of life forever for thous who are condemned. Their body will be left in ashes from fire. The breath of life will go back to God and the Soul will not be in existence.
When a man dies, his body stops functioning and the breath of life goes back to God. The Soul will be in a sleep state. They will either raise for eternal life or eternal death. This is called soul sleep.
If you need a full text and study on that I will provide for thous who request.

The body is part of the Soul. The body is just there to represent you. In a way your soul is the boss of your body. Ever heard of: When you die, your soul goes either to heaven or hell, not your body. Thus your soul is the bigger picture of who you are and the body is just part of that picture.

No, the body is one thing, and the soul is another. Although they come like a 'set', neither is part of the other. The body can perish and decay, while the soul can go beyond the body's demise to either suffer mystical death or celebrate eternal salvation...depending on the person's deeds while still alive.

I believe they are the same. They are co-equal in a sense since they are independent from one another. One could not be around with the other. However, the soul even if the body disintegrates physically would still housed in the same body that it has logically.Life without a sou lcould not withstand by it's own. Each forms part between the two and vice-versa.
Interesting question.Have a great day!

The body and soul co-exist in perfect harmony so that we may consciously experience this Human Life Form.
The human being is a physical body with a spiritual connection to the all and the everything.

I'll tell you like Pastor Benny Hinn explained it : imagine that your soul is a hand and that the hand goes inside of the glove. THink about it, it's not hard to understand. When our bodies die, the soul exists forever but if you don't accept Jesus Christ as your Saviour, believing that He's the Son of God who died on the cross and arose the third day, your soul will experience a second death, but if you believe and accept, then you will find TRUE life.
And remember, that we are all souls, cased inside of temporary flesh bodies.
