Im in my 3rd year of 6 at University and have no motivation to study at all ever. I plan to sit and study but when it comes to it i dont. I find the most mundane tasks to do rather than study. I know im half way through but know that unless i pull my finger out theres no point in continuing. I need motivation, but dont know where/how to get it. May be i should quit, but im not usually a quitter. I want some ideas of what other people do in this situation please. Forget about the usual crap. Try for some proper advice, if possible please.

Why not take a year out - go travelling or get a job and take the time to consider what you want to do with your life. Keep your options open until you know what you want to do. I am taking a sabbatical from my work at the moment for reasons I won't bore you with, am studying for my masters degree and have until next year to decide if I go back to work or if I want to do something else. Having the freedom to postpone the decision takes the pressure off and lets you think more clearly.

Good luck.

I have never been lucky enough to go to university. My family was unable to afford for me to go, and rather than try for a grant or scholarship, I'm afraid I rebelled and ended up pregnant. I regret at times that I wasted my brain as I was (and hopefully still am) reasonably intelligent and could have gone far. My family never said anything but I knew how disappointed they were that I hadn't tried to go further. I'm sure your family are proud of you and would be very disappointed if you chuck it all in. Could you not have a gap year and go off adventuring somewhere, recharging your batteries for more mundane things like studying? Is there not a councillor or someone who you could discuss this with? I hope you have a long, hard think before doing anything yo would regret. Good luck in whatever you decide to do.

Your problem reminds me of why I was happy at starting college late and after having been a high school drop out. After several years of dead end, minimum wage jobs, working with heartless slave drivers and animals, I had no problem with motivation in college. Every time I felt lazy I remembered what it felt like to work outside in the snow with boring, repetitive work.

I graduated with honors and loved the career I had studied for. If you feared returning to the horrors of menial labor I had to put up with you would have no problem with motivation. Perhaps you need a short break to experience the world more. Maybe you have picked the wrong field - after three years you should have some enthusiasm for the studies you have chosen. Good luck to you.

Perhaps you're not happy where you are, the environment that you are in and that that's affecting your motivation. You may want to look into that and decide to transfer to community college until your attitudes towards your studies change or look into a different college if not comfortable at your present school. Please do talk with a school counselor in student services to help you figure out your next move. You may just need to avail yourself to tutoring services or perhaps get into some counseling if feeling depressed.

As far as studying skills, when I was in school, I used to make flash cards out of (larger) index cards especially when studying vocab words or such. I would also make-up mock exams in whatever style that the professor tested on such as multiple choice, true/false, fill-in-the-blank or short essay.

Figure out where you want to be in four years and how you want your peers to view you. If you want a menial job, quit school. If you want a real cool position with bucks attached, study you *** off. Take this to the bank, the big corps do not even want to interview a potential employee if that person does not have a masters. Don't matter what the masters is in. They want to know if you've got brains and balls. Your game, you play, they make the rules.

What are you aiming for? Once you have a goal you will want to get there.
