I'm a Catholic. When I want to hear an organ or two (yes, there IS a church here that has TWO pipe organs, and they do play both occasionally) I got to one church, when I want to listen to a 'band' (a 'folk band' usually) I got to another church. My husband was NOT a Catholic when we got together. We went to our Cathedral church, but were spending the Christmas holiday at my son's house, so we went to the closest Catholic church, where there was 'only' a band. As we walked out of church after Midnight Mass, my husband looked at me in shock and said "There was no organ. There was no 'high ritual' ... I want to go back to the Cathedral.' I KNEW he would become a Catholic, and he did a year and a half later. The Archbishop poured THREE WHOLE PITCHERS of water onto his head, instead of three 'tiny pours' from one pitcher ... it was a 'church joke' and I'd had to 'campaign' to get it done to him ... but he was so glad that when we got home, he closed the door and started dancing and singing 'I'm a Catholic.' We now go more often to the 'folk band' church ... but at least we can 'choose' the kind of music we like by changing the church and still be going to a Catholic church.

I'd definitely rather hear a band b/c they can change styles, but most organs are the same. However, I have a great respect for the organ as well. When someone who really knows how to use it plays, it's like magic. It can change the whole mood at church.

I would rather hear a band rather than an organ because I think organ pipes do not sound as well than a live band playing.

What about both mashed up together. A band with an organ playing the introduction to the song. That would be awesome. A modern mash up!

The only reason I ever enter a church in Toronto is to listen to some of the magnificent organs, played by experts who really should have larger audiences, alas.
