Assuming you have a front wheel drive, it sounds like you damaged your drive axle (on the side you hopped the curb with).
Not a do it yourself job.
Depending on how hard you hit the curb, you could well have done serious damage, get it to a shop, someone you trust, and let them show you what is going on.
Any shop that REFUSES to let you see the car, and the damage, and what needs to be repaired, is not a shop you want to deal with.

Sounds as if you knocked an axle out or broke a trans line. I am assuming it is a front wheel drive car? If you popped an axle out of the trans the fluid wil leak and make smoke if it contacts hot parts. In the case of the reverse working, the opposite axle may be grabbing, or the fluid may be still be full enough to control that solenoid. Most cars use less pressure to operate reverse, so if you broke a line and are low on fluid, reverse may still work without drive working.
Don't try it anymore until you check the fluid. Trying to go with low fluid will burn up the transmission.
As far as knocking the transmission loose from the engine, you would of been through the windshield if that happened.
Goodd Luck

You may have broken your strut and/or coil spring which leads me to believe thats where the smoke is coming from because it's rubbing on the tire or you could have broke an axle.
Don't try to drive it as it may cause more damage.
Like the others said ''Have a mechanic check it out''

lol, people will continue to show their true self. Passenger cars are not designed to be jumping curbs. Things will break as a result. Have your car towed to a local service facility.

my car does the same thing but only if it's raining hard, I did exactly what a previous poster said (taking the belt off and checking the pulleys and the A/C pump pulley clutch is stuck. so I agree that the ase mech answer is the best! on my car the clutch assem(comes with new pulley and clutch) was $150 and takes about 20mins to replace.

Damn, sounds like you messed up bad. If it is making noises when you try to shift into gear, you may well have knocked the tranny lose of the engine, thats a bit extreeme, but your best bet is to have a qualified transmission shop diagnoise it, this is NOT a "Do it yourself" repair.

Well silly, you apparently screwed something up. Did you look underneath to see what might have happened. Have someone look at it that knows about cars.
