After a police officer visited the local high school, the kids came away with the message that as long as they were on private property (any private property), that they can drink underage and nothing can be done. Is this correct law or did they get the wrong message. Tried looking it up but cant find any laws about it.

It’s your responsibility as a host (responsible adult serving - private property) to ensure the safety of your guests. It is not an offence for a person under 18 to drink alcohol within your property or someone else's private property. However, young people, like adults, can be arrested for behaviours associated with drinking (such as violence or property damage). It is also not illegal to become intoxicated at a private function, but intoxicated people have less control and can be a danger to themselves and others around them. As the host, you may be legally liable and could be charged with civil negligence if a drunken guest causes damage to property or another person.

Underage drinking is illegal PUBLICALLY in all circumstances.

It is illegal to supply alcohol to a minor. If you are 18 or over and you buy or supply alcohol for your underage friends, you can be fined an on-the-spot fine of $600 and your underage friend can be fined $225 on the spot, up to a maximum of $1875. Just asking a mate to hold your liquor may be considered supply.

From the police department FAQ:
"I'm at a party at a friend's house. Can I be arrested for underage drinking?" No, but you need to be aware of how much you drink and how the alcohol may affect you.

You are allowed to drink alcohol in the presence of a parent or guardian as long as you are on private property. Hence why catholic priests don't get arrested for giving communion wine to kids.

I live in the state of Georgia. They recently had a case in an Atlanta suburb that minors who were in a private home were arrested for underage drinking. Also, the parents were arrested for supplying the alcohol. I guess it varies from state to state. Personally I would wait until I was 21.

Underage eating is a criminal offense. you should flow to reformatory. inner maximum assets does no longer advise you are able to smash rules. eating at a youthful age will harm your ideas. you will never be attentive to how clever you are able to have been.

Nope it's still illegal. In some states you can drink with your parents, but you had better stay with them until the alcohol is out of your system
