A reatiler goes into the store and spends $48 for 'c' amount of cups. While in the store, two of the cups break. So the retailer decides to sell the cups for $3 more than he paid for them. As a result, he makes a profit of $22. So, how many cups did the retailer originally purchase?

Let 'c' represent the original number of cups.
Let 'p' represent the original price per cup.
The initial purchase was: c * p = 48
The profit was: 3(c - 2) = 22
3c = 24, c = 8, original price was $6/cup
