well im not exactly sure what sound you're going for here, but there's several ways you can distort the sound. first of all, the amp is just a speaker to let your guitar be heard, basically. but if it has an "overdrive" (or anything of that sort) knob on it, you can put some level of distortion on the sound. i checked your guitar out and the amp that's bundled with it didn't look like it had a distortion knob. so then you've got your pedals. they make these bad boys to create all sorts of sound, and if you want to empty your wallet you can even pick one up that can do about anything. I'm guessing you're wanting a "grunge" or "heavy metal" type deal though. I don't know where your neck of the woods is, but around here those only run around $40, and I'm pretty sure they've even got them on musiciansfriend. one that I'd recomend for the money is the Digitech Grunge Pedal. works good. and lastly, even with all of the equipment, you've got to know how to make the guitar make the sounds, which isn't that hard. I haven't been playing for ages, either, but I've picked it up rather quickly, and I imagine you will, too. so take it easy man and wish you luck.

The answer is: effects boxes.
No rock guitarist just plays a guitar through an amp...that went out in the 60s. A couple of Southern Rock bands maybe in the 70s, that's about it.
You always have an effects pedal. I just sold one I wasn't using much...a Boss ME-50, the model used by Metallica.
I recommend you go to a Website like Musiciansfriend and check out the pedals. You can also find some bargains on ebay.
Good luck.

Electric guitars rely a lot on the amp for the type of tone output. I started with a Line6 amp. Some people believe that the sound of Line6's are a little too "digital" but they have really improved in tone quality. You get a wide variety of tones out of those amps, too.

It depends on the type of guitar, the amplifier, the pickup, the strings, the cables you are using to plug the guitar into the amplifier. Go to Wikipedia and type in your favourite metal band, it will list the type of gear they use. My favourite setup is a Dean ML guitar with a Seymour Duncan pickup, the guitarists from Pantera and Trivium use the same thing.

You need an amp, and some amps come with the guitar, like mine. If you don't have an amp, then go buy one at an eletrical store, or a guitar store. Somewhere like that.

if you're just starting out, keep in mind most entry level amps have distortion effects you can either turn on or off and adjust the level you want. just do yourself a favor and buy from a music store, not a department store, and don't be afraid to ask for advice.

Since you know nothing about guitars---suggest you buy a accoustic and learn to play... Get the learning video to get ya started. The accoustic should not cost over $100 -- get a hard case..for transporting.
Don't spend a lot of money your never gona learn to play. Should be about 2 years to feel comfortable playing...anything that you learned from the video...

you have to get a pedal (metal zone)
the amp just allows your guitar to be heard (like a speaker, hence the name amp-amplifier), you have to hook the pedal up to the guitar. they have lots of different pedals that make different kinds of noises or effects on the guitar

Buy a distortion pedal (or multi effects) and turn up the levels until the noise makes your head hurt.
