80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.

I've come to two conclusions recently:

1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.

First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.

Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.

To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

Life means to live, to live means to love.I think our reason in life is to love and care for all those around us, we all have our purposes here in this life and they all can help each other.Think of those who are less fortunate try: ethiopia if we all put our services together, we could stop poverty sickness etc and be happy,it is known that the most poorest towns in australia have the happiest people living there, why? alot of answers but they are living, are u really living? or are u just existing?Im not religous these are my thoughts.I believe everything good and bad happens or a reason. The bad things that happen to us strengthen us and give us a purpose to live, once our time is up,if we've achieved our goal/mission then we go to the next level which is known as heaven. If we dont then u reincarnate.

There are probably 6 billions ways to answer this question, considering there are 6 billions people and perspectives. To me, it's all about experience and learning. Discovery and exploration.

If we discover, then we have more questions. If we have more questions we have to make more discoveries. Will this process ever end? I dont think so. And thats exactly what makes life wonderful.

Like the first person said, the meaning of life is what you make of it.
And as for why there are 6 billion of us? Well, that's cuz we're too good at making us survive but killing everything else..

42 is a good answer, too!

My opinion is that the meaning of life is to live, make children, and die. We are here to continue the human race...? Sorry, I'm not a very deep thinker. There are 6 billion of us because we fear death and we've created too many ways to extend it.

What's life. Let's see. Life is a gift. Life is a terrible thing to sleep through. Life is beautiful. Every day you are alive is a gift. Life can be hard, but never despair. Life is nature and creation. Life is touching people not by actions, but words. Life is mean. Life is vivid. Life is about walking in the rain to see the rainbow. That's life to me.

Aristotle and Leonardo DeVinci among many gifted intellectuals before us struggled with this concept. I believe there is a reason we exist and there is a life after this worldly one. If you think of the concept of infinity and realize that we (Earth) are but a speck of dust in endless space, you have to believe that some power superior to us had to create it. I think that once you are comfortable with your belief in the origin of life, you are more focused on your goals and values in life.

We are all here because there's no space left over there. And the meaning of life is whatever you decide to make of it. Everyone has a different purpose , and the great thing is we all get to decide what that purpose is.
