What do you think of the way things are concerning smoking?

I live in Canada and am a smoker. I do realize the rights of the non-smoker, but believe that some legislation being enforced is crazy. If smoking is so bad that we need to implement all the laws, then why not ban it? Are you a smoker or non-smoker? What are your views on the laws Canadian, US, or worldwide reply. I am interested in what it is like in other countries and viewpoints of Canadians too. Smokers or non-smokers, how do you feel about the way things are? Do you feel that you should be able to smoke in your vehicle or home. They want us outside, but when our smoke goes into the window of someone's house then where will the lines be drawn in new legislation. Why are cigarettes just not banned? Do you think the greedy governments still want the revenue, so still sell them? Just curious

Tobacco is an interesting industry, they have been tweaking the blends of their products to make them more an more addicting. It is one of the few industries that kills it's consumers.

We cannot outlaw the products despite the health problems it causes. Like any other addict, the tobacco user will simply obtain the product underground.

If it is outlawed we will end up just like prohibition and crete a bunch of criminals.

I do not have a problem regulating where tobacco can be consumed. We do it with Alcohol

Your comment about revenue is a very good one. And tobacco interests have lobbyists in Washington who make it profitable for the politicians to not ban smoking.

I was a smoker for years, but quit in July of 2005. I was not ready to quit, did not want to quit, but was concerned about my health and my small disability pension. I could not afford them anymore, so I quit cold turkey. It was hard, very hard, but I am not sorry I did it. One of idiotic things I noticed when I was smoking was patrons entering a restaurant had to walk through the smoking section to get seated and then walk through again to get to the restrooms. I considered myself to be a considerate smoker, always asking permission before I lit my cigarette. If there were objections, I didn't smoke. To my knowledge, smoking is permitted in your home and your vehicle here in the States, but it can be somewhat touchy, especially if there are children in either. Smoking should be prohibited around children. Smoking outside? - try smoking at a football game and see what happens.

I like it but it could be better. I think it should be banned worldwide. I think you should only be allowed to smoke outside by your dwelling.
